A very tacky wedding

Being a former wedding planner I've had occasion to hear some pretty crazy ideas for a wedding theme. I always tried to keep everyone away from the "Snowball" or Christmas themed wedding. Here's what could happen if you don't listen to your wedding planner:

This wedding has it all. Santa Claus wedding dress with flowing train, check. Giant his and hers cocktails, check. Multiple hideous cakes, triple check!

Fame at last

I submitted a photo to Andrew Sullivan's Daily Dish blog for his "View From Your Window" series. It was taken on a trip I made to Paris. It was the view from my (minuscule) hotel room. Well, I discovered it posted today. Thanks Andrew.

It's finally happened, Joan Rivers is selling her New York City penthouse. Rivers bought her duplex condominium about 20 years ago in a converted 1903 mansion on East 62nd Street just off Fifth Avenue in New York City. The NY Times Big Deal column reports that Rivers restored the home including the double-height ballroom which now serves as the tremendously ornate living room shown above. The baroque room is embellished with gilded molding and a sky-painted ceiling. The three-bedroom penthouse includes a south-facing terrace with views of Central Park. Things get a little bit more subdued in the library and a bit more suited to the comedian and jewelry line pitchwoman with a large tufted leather sofa and a leopard print rug. Rivers, who reportedly is moving to California to be closer to her daughter, also owns a home in Litchfield County, Connecticut. The penthouse is listed at $25 million.

As Seen On TV

My dear in-laws saw this device on TV and thought that it must work so they bought two of them for us. It is called the "Topsy-Turvy Tomato Planter". The theory is that all of the water and nutrients will be forced, through gravity, into the plants making them grow faster, need no staking and off of the ground so they will be free from varmints. I'm giving them a try with some Romas and some heirloom beefsteaks that were grown from seed by Cape-abilities, a garden outfit run by folks with learning disabilities. We have a group home across the street from us with folks who work with Cape-abilities so we thought we would support them by buying our plants from them. I will keep you updated on the progress.
