Exciting News! Ladurée to open Manhattan Salon de Thé

To those of you who are not aware of what Ladurée is, let me explain. While shopping in Paris last June, I was overcome with fatigue (yes... shopping on the Champs Élysée is exhausting n'est ce pas?) and needed a cup of tea and a little something sweet. I came across a place called Ladurée on the Rue Royale near the Place de la Concorde. The window was intriguing so I went inside and was whisked back in time to the 1860's. The room was beautiful with wood boiserie paneling, French Empire-style fixtures, chandeliers and furniture. The tea and treats were served in sterling pots and china cups and the pastries... ah, the pastries! Ladurée is apparently famous for some lovely little cookies they call macaroons, not at all similar to the coconut and egg white cookies we are familiar with. I absolutely loved that place and went back again for luncheon as they also served luncheon (sandwiches, pâtés, etc.). (The Menu is here) A little note of interest... Ladurée also prepared the pastries for Sophia Coppolla's film "Marie Antoinette". If you saw that film you would remember the sumptuous pastries in that film.

Now comes news (albeit sketchy) that Ladurée will open a "salon de thé" in New York. They were originally due to open a salon in The Plaza, but the owners of The Plaza screwed that up so they are looking into another NYC locale. Let's hope that they can find a spot and open soon. In the meantime, here are a couple of photos of Ladurée in Paris. Bon appetite!

This morning's Dynasty break

We saw, last time, Alexis and Cecil's tender loving wedding scene at the hospital, just before Cecil dropped dead from a coronary. Today's scene takes us to Cecil's office at Colbyco Oil for the reading of the will. The will won't be the only thing read as Krystle and Blake have been invited to attend...

The Buttons Go To Mohegan Sun

Mr. B and I take a little pre-Christmas trip to Mohegan Sun. After all, what better way to celebrate the birth of Jesus Christ than by smoking cigarettes, drinking free liquor and eating at the all-you-can-eat buffet at a casino?

Into the Wayback Machine (again)

Today's visit into the Wayback Machine takes us to the 1990's and a show called "In Living Color". It was a launching pad for such stars as Jim Carrey, Jamie Fox, Rosie Perez and Jennifer Lopez. Today's video is called "Men On Film" and we have film reviewers Blaine Edwards (Damon Wayans) and Antoine Merriweather (David Alan Grier), reviewing films "from a man's point of view". Enjoy!

Aretha at the Inauguration

Who else would they have chosen? She gets 3 snaps up!

A few parting shots...

Let the joyous news be spread. The wicked old witch at last is dead!

Today's Dynasty Break

Earlier we saw Cecil Colby have a heart attack after knocking 7 bells out of Alexis on the day bed in her studio. Today we see Cecil in the hospital with Alexis dropping by in a wedding dress to make sure that her plans of revenge against Blake don't fail due to her inability to grab onto Cecil's billions before he "leaps into his grave". Cecil's doctor objects but that doesn't stop Alexis! This scene is priceless!

Another trip into the Wayback Machine

As you can see I am going through old videos. Here's one that was shot for Tobin's 40th birthday at the Sandwich Grange Hall in 1994.

Bunnie's 40th Birthday Video

I thought it would be fun to see what we all looked like back in 1992. The video is a little "dark" (low lighting) as it was a surprise party and we had to keep the lights down. I believe there is more video and I will post it when I can.

P.S. Keep an eye peeled for that ponytail on Bob!

Cue the violin!

Hard-up billionaire forced to sell his toys

Even multibillionaires are feeling the pinch. James Packer, once Australia's richest man, has reportedly put his $50m (£23m) yacht up for sale, postponed delivery of a $60m private jet and left a swimming pool complex at his family property half-built.
Mr Packer, 41, who inherited a fortune from his father, the media tycoon Kerry Packer, has seen the value of his assets halve in the past year, from $6bn to less than $3bn, according to the Sydney Sunday Telegraph. As a result, he is dismantling his playboy lifestyle. A three-level Mayfair apartment is also up for sale. He launched his Mangusta 165 yacht, the Z Ellerston, in July, after a two-year wait for delivery. The world's largest model of open yacht, at 165ft, it is sold with a complimentary Aston Martin and features nine bedrooms. Mr Packer has also deferred delivery of a Boeing Business Jet to 2010 to release some capital, the paper said. Mr Packer, who has divested himself of his father's media interests and is focusing on creating a global casino empire, was listed as Australia's third richest man last year. That marked the first time in 21 years that he or his father had not sat on top of the rich list.

Today's "Dynasty" Break

Today we see Alexis and Cecil Colby on the daybed in Alexis' studio making their plans for their wedding and the destruction of Blake Carrington. Such scenery chewing we rarely see anymore.

Et maintenant, Musique! Lumières!
