Sen. Ted Cruz’s (R-TX) attempt to show support for Rowan
County, Kentucky clerk Kim Davis on Tuesday was foiled by fellow Republican
Mike Huckabee’s campaign team, the New York Times reported. The Texas Tea Party
member was seen at a rally backing Davis in Grayson, where Davis was jailed
after refusing orders from a federal court and the Supreme Court to issue
marriage licenses to same-sex couples. However, when Cruz tried to talk to the
media the Times noted that “an aide to Mr. Huckabee blocked the
path of Mr. Cruz, who appeared incredulous.”
Huckabee, who like Cruz is part of the Republican
presidential candidate field, was then seen alongside Davis and spoke
on her behalf. “Meanwhile, Mr. Cruz stood off to the side, keeping an unusually
low profile during the event,” the Times reported.
